This top ten list pays homage to one of the greatest web comics of all time – XKCD. I’ve tried to avoid the super geeky comics in this top ten, mainly because I don’t get them myself. So anyway here they are – the top ten XKCD comics of all time:

10 -  Stove Ownership (418)

Ah… A turning point in every man’s life. It usually comes a few weeks into university life. It’s that kind of realisation that stops you in your tracks, like “Oh my god… Of course Santa doesn’t exist!”

Stove Ownership

418 - Stove Ownership

9 -  Snakes on A Plane! 2 (107)

Snakes on a plane sure would be an inconvenience at the very least, but snakes on EVERY plane…?

Snakes On A Plane 2

8 -  Words That End In GRY (169)

That’ll teach you, smart arse. I don’t even think the punishment goes far enough for such an ill thought out, badly worded intelligence test.

Words That End In GRY

169 - Words That End In GRY

7 -  Numerical Sex Positions (487)

If penises were numbers, mine would be Graham’s Number. Oh yeaaaaah.

Numerical Sex Positions

487 - Numerical Sex Positions

6 -  Estimation (612)

This is SO TRUE. How can a computer, whose job it is to compute things, be so bad at computing something simple, like how long it will take to transfer a They Might Be Giants album from a USB stick onto my hard drive?

Estimation

5 -  Google Maps (461)

I believe this comic was inspired by Google’s adventurous directions when Google Maps first launched, encouraging travellers to ’swim across the English channel’. Perhaps blind faith in Google isn’t such a good thing after all.

Google Maps

461 - Google Maps

4 -  Regular Expressions (208)

Definitely the geekiest comic in this top ten; I can’t even say I fully understand it myself. I do like the idea of a superhero programmer swinging from a rope though.

Regular Expressions

208 - Regular Expressions

3 -  Mispronouncing (148)

This is a sure fire way to wind up the kids these days. It’s sad, realising that soon there will be kids laughing at me for the same reasons I used to laugh at my dad.

Mispronouncing

148 - Mispronouncing

2 -  Cat Proximity (231)

A classic graph-based comic which relies on its simplicity. Everyone knows someone like this.

231 - Cat Proximity

1 -  Regrets (458)

Awww… Hopefully a comic of encouragement to all you geeks out there – next time you’re out with a girl and can’t quite bring yourself to pull the trigger, just think of this comic and all will be well.

XKCD - Regrets

458 - Regrets

So there we have it – the top ten XKCD comics of all time (in my humble opinion, of course). There are plenty of other amazing comics which didn’t quite make it to the top ten, but you’ll have to go and find those yourselves: Random XKCD Comic
